Francis Bacon

Francis Bacon (1909–1992) was known for his figurative portraits, which rendered his subjects in dramatic, expressive contortions. Born in Dublin in 1909, the artist traveled throughout Europe during the 1920s, receiving his art education primarily by viewing masterworks in Parisian museums. Bacon lived primarily in London and passed away in Madrid in 1992. His work has been the subject of major museum retrospectives at the Tate Modern, London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, among numerous others.
